DevpacNG Amiga

The Next-Generation HiSoft Devpac assembler and Monam debugger suite for AmigaOS, enhanced with native 68080/AMMX support

DevpacNG Amiga Banner

DevpacNG Amiga is a modernized, next-generation continuation of the legendary HiSoft Devpac assembly development suite for Commodore Amiga and Apollo V4 systems.

This project is a joint effort between three coders:

  • Tommo: Monam machine code debugger & native 68080 support.
  • Laidback: Upcoming next-generation editor written 100% in assembly.
  • Tjomp: Genam macro assembler core & 68080 architecture support.

The Team & Joint Effort

  • Genam 68080 Support by Tjomp: Comprehensive decoding and assembly for the Apollo Core 68080 instruction set, AMMX vector extensions, and modern assembler pipeline optimizations.

  • Monam 68080 Support by Tommo: Full 68080 disassembly, extended register inspection, and interactive hardware debugging in Monam are the dedicated work of Tommo.

  • Future 100% Assembly Editor by Laidback: Currently, the standard classic Devpac editor is bundled with the suite. However, it will soon be replaced by a completely new editor written in 100% assembler by Laidback. Upcoming features will include:

    • Real-time syntax highlighting for 68k/68080 assembly.
    • Dynamic label jump table for instant symbol navigation.
    • Full project file management (.prj workflows).
    • Modern desktop productivity enhancements with pure assembly speed.

Highlights & Key Features

  • Full CPU Architecture Support:

    • Instruction set support for Motorola 68000, 68010, 68020, 68030, 68040, 68060, and Apollo Core 68080 / CPU32.
    • Dedicated processor directives: mc68000 through mc68060, mc68080, ac68080, and cpu32.
  • Enhanced Instruction Set:

    • Support for 68040+ cache, MMU, and FPU instructions (cinv, cpush, move16, pflush, fsmove, fdmove, etc.).
    • Banked register addressing support (move.l and movea.l between address registers An and banked registers Bn).
  • Advanced Assembly Engine (Genam):

    • Full support for forward-referenced symbols and cross-section symbol differences in EQU and SET expressions.
    • Support for local labels within EQU, SET, REG, EQUR, and FEQU directives.
    • Allowed symbol names starting with .b, .w, .l, or .q when not used as instruction size suffixes.
    • Accurate CNOP alignment directive inside BSS and OFFSET sections.
    • Fixed PSAVE instruction opcode encoding and robust leading whitespace handling.
  • Monam Debugger (68080 by Tommo):

    • Updated Monam debugging interface with extended register windows, full 68080 disassembly, and modern hardware tracing.
